Off to Tennessee, cat in car

Well, after a cozy stay at the Economy Lodge in Pendelton, Oregon, Mighty and I headed out for our first BIG DAY. She was none too pleased with the driving situation and it took 3 hours before she finally stopped looking out the window at every truck we passed - and we passed many.

Indeed, there seem to be a glut of trucks on our highways and almost no other type of vehicle. I came to view them as my polite brethren, always giving little clues when there was a cop checking speed, an icy patch, or a deer carcass on the road.

A 15 hour drive (well 14, actually, with the time change) gives you plenty of time to think. Lots of time. Too much time.

As for my polite brethren on the road, this held true through Utah, but, alas, something strange happened in Wyoming. All of the sudden trucks became vicious beasts out to get any car who dared to pass them at 85mph. I mean, there you'd be heading in for a nice pass and BOOM! A truck would pull out two feet in front of your bumper forcing you to slam on your brakes and pray.

Special thanks to:

  • Melissa for chatting to me as I passed through Idaho and for the sun flower seed tip
  • Mom for the HWY 80 instructions and the Ipod
  • Benjamin for FIXING the Ipod
  • Jim for FILLING the Ipod (like some of those new tunes)
  • Kurt for his 6,000,000 calls with updates and entertaining tidbits throughout the day
  • Dad for caring
  • Chris - THE MAPS
  • Tennessee for the happy office space stories
  • Norm for hanging out with me in Wyoming
  • Nysa and Jeff for getting the BEER
  • Ramzan for the all important tool that I now only use late at night when all my friends are at the bars partying, coffee has failed me, and I still have 100 miles to go - the BOOK ON TAPE.
